Rachel and Matthew Buchanan opened The Leaning Pear in 2007. Both grew up in Texas, both went to A&M. They cooked through a stretch in Perugia, Matthew did the CIA in Hyde Park, then they came home to run a place built on nearby farms and a long lunch.
First address was the Lowery House on River Road, one of the older buildings in the valley. In 2013 they moved a few steps closer to the water, into a new Overland Partners building on the bluff. Regulars still call it the Pear.

What people order.
The kitchen posts a working menu and it moves. These are the dishes that keep showing up. Confirm the day’s sheet before you get attached to a price.
Closed Monday and Tuesday.
Wednesday through Saturday they run lunch into dinner. Sunday is brunch, then they go home.

Tables under 10 are walk-in. They do not take smaller reservations. Call for a group of 10 or more. Private room holds 20 to 36. No off-site catering.

They talk about the deck first. You sit in the oaks above the creek meadow, a few hundred yards from town and somehow quiet.
Cedar Hacker and the crab cake come up a lot. Sunday brunch fills. Sit outside with the dog if the weather holds.
